  • It's all one-way traffic with Danielle Collins racing to a 4-0 lead against Iga Swiatek.

Collins has hit 4-1 winners, while Swiatek 4-2 unforced errors.

Collins is jumping all over Swiatek's second serves, while winning 100 per cent of her own first serves.

Ash Barty has become the first Australian woman in 42 years to make the final of the Australian Open.

Barty is now one match away from becoming the first Australian since Chris O'Neill in 1978 to win the Australian Open. More pertinently for Barty, her idol Evonne Goolagong won it the year before that in 1977.

    So, no pressure.

After defeating tall American Madison Keys 6-1, 6-3 in a little over an hour, the world No. 1 advanced to the final where she hopes to claim her third grand slam title to go with her Wimbledon and French Open wins.

The American now leads 3-0 after breaking Iga Swiatek again!

Collins didn't take advantage of the first break-point chance, but she again forced Swiatek into error to break serve.

First came the 2019 French Open, a surprise even to Ash Barty herself. Next there was last year's Wimbledon, which she openly set herself to win and dedicated to her inspiration, Evonne Goolagong-Cawley.

Now Barty is one win away from winning the Australian Open, and cannot help but be aware that this time she is playing for her country and for the good cheer of all her compatriots who have tried in the 44 years since an Australian last won their home championship, so long ago that Melbourne Park wasn't even a twinkle in John Cain's eye.

It's a big responsibility, and will weigh more with each passing hour until she takes to Rod Laver arena on Saturday night. While waiting, she won't want to look out of the window. By nightfall, Australia will be metaphorically hanging from the rafters.

Well, it's a near identical start to the Barty-Keys match.

Collins, after breaking Swiatek in the opening service game, has held serve to take a 2-0 lead.

She raced to 40-0 before Swiatek hit a winner to make it 40-15, but Collins responded to consolidate her early break.

Iga Swiatek had the opening service game, but Danielle Collins has taken a very early break.

The American had two set points, but Swiatek saved one, before she was forced into an error to concede a 1-0 lead.

It's now up to Iga Swiatek and Danielle Collins to fight for their spot in the Australian Open final, to meet Ash Barty.

Swiatek, the seventh seed, is coming off back-to-back three setters, after overcoming Kaia Kanepi in the quarter final.

Collins, seeded 27th, beat Alize Cornet in straight sets in the quarter-finals and also beat 19th seed Elise Mertens in the fourth round, coming back from a set down.
